	Overview The tide of the Civil War begin to turn with Union victories in the West. U. S. Grant comes to prominence with victories at Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, and Shiloh. John Pope wins a key battle at New Madrid/Island No. 10. Ironclads clash at the Battle of Hampton Roads between USS Monitor and CSS Virginia. New Mexico is secured with the Union victory at Glorieta Pass. Forts Jackson & St. Philip, LA are taken and New Orleans is captured. The Federal victory at Pea Ridge wins Missouri for the Union.
